summer is my very favorite season, and i’m sad to see we are already in its waning days. i’m not ready for PSLs or eggnog lattes, nor for the seasons they accompany.
this summer, my grandparents were in town and we took a trip down to indiana and kentucky.
we retraced part of our original INKY trip the summer before last, but the highlights of this trip were the stops that were new to us. we visited abraham lincoln’s birthplace and childhood home, both in kentucky.
we also visited the house that mary todd lincoln lived in for a few years before moving to springfield to live with her sister. it was first historical site to be established that was connected with a first lady.
this summer also marks my first experience camping. let me tell you something. i did not grow up camping. i have never had the least desire to camp. and i really thought it was all over when i went to bed the first night ON THE GROUND, IN A THUNDERSTORM. except then i woke up peaceably the next morning, perfectly dry, feeling the best i have ever felt after a night’s sleep in months. MONTHS. i strongly considered pitching a tent outside my apartment building and sleeping outside for the rest of the summer.
here are pictures of two of the best meals i ate this summer:
i had hoped to stop in cincinnati to see dana in the way down to INKY, but then found out she was actually going to be in lexington the same time we were. so we went out for brunch and dana got to meet my family and my brother indulged us by taking half a million pictures.
also. y’all. WE HAVE TO TALK ABOUT THE OLYMPICS. first of all, honduras sent their soccer team there AND THEY MADE IT TO THE BRONZE MEDAL MATCH. i have never been prouder to wear the blue and white emblazoned with five stars and i was fully prepared to sub into the game should that have been necessary.
while i’m devastated to see the last of summer slip away (despite the proliferation of construction that has beset the mitten this year, which is far more extensive that in any summer i have ever known), i’m excited to get back into the part of my job i love the most, which is working with students in the local school district. the past two weeks have been crazy getting things organized and scheduled but i love it!
what have been some of your favorite summer moments?
