It’s so weird to think I’ve experienced my third Influence Conference. I remember as though it were yesterday seeing Hayley‘s announcement and getting up early so I could buy a ticket the minute they went on sale.
And I remember at the first conference, they announced Thursday afternoon they were selling tickets for the second one already: five for women who were attending the first, and five for women who weren’t able to come. I hadn’t even hardly begun my first Influence experience when I paid for a ticket to the second, and I felt less silly knowing Kerrie had done the same.
Last year I wasn’t able to buy my ticket at the conference. I bought one as part of the Black Friday sale, and by “Black Friday” I mean at 10:30pm on Thursday I looked at my family sitting around the dining room table and announced, “I’m done with my Black Friday shopping.” (And I was.)
I’m passionate about this conference, about this community, about this core. You have influence, right where you are, as a woman, and now it’s time to use those attributes to build His kingdom.
I had the privilege of taking over the Influence Network Instagram for a week in August and I posted a picture of me holding Ruthie‘s baby Ford at the conference last year. “Influence,” I wrote in the caption, “is a place where somebody will hold your baby,” both literal and metaphorical.
Because, sometimes, your influence is simple.
Sometimes it looks like telling a younger woman to work toward the dream in her heart. (I will never forget how Erin did this for me at Influence 2012.)
Sometimes it looks like watching a baby fall asleep in your arms. (A privilege Ruthie, Jennifer, and Ashton each graciously afforded me.)
Sometimes it looks like free rent for two weeks. (My roommate is beyond generous.)
Sometimes it looks like getting up in front of a crowd of women and speaking what you know from Scripture and experience to be true. And sometimes that looks like sharing the words you heard from such women, so more people than who just heard it by ear can ponder over them:
We’ve been given a rich inheritance as co-heirs with Christ. As women of influence, it’s time to build.
If you’re thinking of going to the conference, I urge you to buy a ticket. The discounted price is no longer available, but you should get it anyway. It creates the opportunity for you to make attending the conference a reality without fear you’ll lose your spot and it eliminates one of the major purchases from next summer when you’ll be paying for a hotel and airfare.
I WANT TO SEE YOU THERE.
