True story: I usually spend Friday night at home.
At the end of the week, there’s nothing I like better than unwinding. There are some weeks I’ll go out with friends; I always have a good time and I never regret it. But mostly, my plans for Friday night involve coming home after work, putting up my feet, and reading.
Tonight, I actually have plans to be out. Our church hosts a global mission fest every six months as a way to celebrate international outreach and make our missionaries known to the church body and I am on the PR team for this fall’s GMF. We’re meeting tonight to talk over ideas and strategies for effective promotion.
If I were staying home, though, I have a few plans for how I’d spend the night:
reading • If I have free time, I usually spend it reading. I carry my Kindle everywhere in case I have to spend time reading. I read in doctors’ waiting rooms, I read in long drive-thru lines, I read before work and during lunch. Friday nights are some of my favorite nights to read because I can read until 1 or 2am if I want, usually without having to set an alarm for the next morning.
commenting • I forgot how much time commenting takes! I’ve spent hours each night on my laptop because of Blogtember and I haven’t commented on others’ posts often nor have I managed to respond to a single comment left here. I would be spending a good chunk of time doing both of those tonight!
celebrating! • About a month ago, I applied for a position at my current employer. A few days ago, I was offered the job and I officially tendered my acceptance yesterday morning. I’ll be working in financial education with a focus on our existing relationship with a local school district and I’m SO excited to get started. When I told my roommate, she decided we had to celebrate with froyo. So yes, this is going out instead of staying in, but y’all! It’s a new job and it’s froyo.
watching TV • Basically all I watch is Once Upon a Time and Madam Secretary. I kept up on OUAT pretty well because I recorded those on DVR, but I wasn’t as good with Madam Secretary because although I bought the season on iTunes, I didn’t have enough room on my laptop to actually download the episodes. (Insert gritted teeth emoji here.) Anyway, I sorted that out and I have them now, but I still haven’t had a chance to watch them.
(Naturally both of these shows air the same time on the same night, so I couldn’t DVR them both (in HD, which, if I pay for it, I’m going to watch it), otherwise this conundrum would have been MUCH more easily untangled.)
cleaning • This isn’t fun at all, but I have long needed to organize all the books I’ve bought recently and sort out the pile of clothes sitting in my desk chair. The mess is driving me insane but since I haven’t had time to clear it up, it’s still there.
What I really need to do is buy the new tobyMAC album, turn it up loud, and turn cleaning into a dance party. This is suddenly sounding a lot more fun.
What would you do on a Friday night in?
