it strikes me suddenly while reading on the influence forums.
so often i think we forget to find Jesus in the ordinary things, like getting dressed in the morning. so often we miss Him where He’s yearning to be found.
and as i read, i start to comment, and as i write, i realize that when adam and eve sin and are later found in the garden, the Lord does two things: in His mercy, He spares their lives, and in His grace, He gives them clothes.
what if we saw clothes as an opportunity to glorify Him? not in the sense of modesty we so often think, but instead, what if we took our natural penchant for creativity and merged it with the necessary grind of the morning? what if we saw putting clothes on every day as an opportunity to make art?
i’ve never been a terribly fashionable person but when i started working at forever 21 i started learning how to put outfits together in a better and more interesting way than i had before. and i’m stoked to learn more about how to do that as i continue to work retail, but also because i just feel better when i’m wearing something that’s a little more interesting than just jeans and a t-shirt or black pants and a dressy top.
i want to learn to glorify the Lord by making art with my clothing. not because i just want to look cute, but because i want to learn to bring everything under the umbrella of surrender and His glorification.
so here’s the deal.
i’ve wanted to try stitchfix for over a year now, ever since i saw raechel and kacia getting their first fixes in the summer of 2012. i’ve never had the money, so i’ve never done it.
but now i have some stitchfix credit, and because i want to start talking a little more about fashion on the blog, i want to do this stitchfix thing together. (virtual shopping, people. and i don’t have to leave my house. WIN.)
would you join me in making art with our clothes? whether you’ve done a fix before or not, i’d love to have you order one this next week and link up with me at the end of the month in an exercise of fashionable art. and if you haven’t done a fix before and use my referral link for your first one, we can do this again in the next few months!*
so if you’re going to jump the stitchfix train with me, here’s the schedule:
order your fix to arrive by friday, november 22style your fix using pieces from your wardrobe & take pictures!publish and link up your post on friday, december 6
i can’t wait to make fashionable art with y’all.
*i can only afford to do this through stitchfix credit. your purchasing through my referral link will give me $25 in stitchfix credit so i can order another fix & i would love to keep doing fixes WITH you!
