then, friday night, i threw my to-do list out the window.
well, not really. it was written on the back of an old receipt and stuffed in my purse. and i left it there.
tomorrow, i thought, is a good time to do these things.
ahem. enter: sometimes annie wants to have a social life instead of doing things she has to do.
you know, like cleaning and finishing laundry and packing for spain.
oh, and scanning pictures of france. yes, i said scanning. i went to france in the spring of 2005 and took all those pictures with a film camera. a film camera that i nearly left in the airport at london and then apparently ruined because nobody taught me how to properly load the film before i left.
all that to say, you missed out on pictures of german bunkers (normandy), me in glasses (oh, hello again, pre-contact days), and parisian sewers (yes, sewers), among other things.
let me tell you what i did do instead of what i was supposed to do:
one | i spent three and a half hours on the phone with tiffany talking about many things, like how she’s always leaving me. this is remarkable in light of the fact that i hate talking on the phone, and tiffany even said when i called her, “you decided to pick up the phone and call instead of text?”
why, yes; yes, i did.
two | i slept almost an hour later on saturday than i’d originally planned and skipped doing the rest of my laundry.
actually, this was mostly an accident.
three | i left clothes in the dryer saturday when i left the house, even though i am paranoid about clothes wrinkling, a paranoia that stems largely from my carefully cultivated avoidance of ironing.
and in the interest of full disclosure, those clothes are still in the dryer.
four | i spent most of saturday with some of my favorite people ever. we went to the beach, hung out at my apartment, and went out for dinner. i did not think about my to-do list (although i did acknowledge a few times that i had to pack for spain that day). i did not think about blogging, or twitter, or design. & i can’t even tell you how much i needed a day of friends and laughter and very little technology, & how good it was to get that.
five | because i spent most of saturday instead of just part of saturday with some of my favorite people ever, we (by which i mean my brother, his girlfriend, and myself) didn’t start thinking about taking the two hour drive to my parents’ house until probably five hours after we’d intended to leave.
and at that point, i still hadn’t packed for spain.
six | i packed for a two week trip in twenty minutes. & by “packed” i mean i threw my clothes at polly, who then rolled and put them in my suitcase.
6a | i have packed more shoes for this trip than any other trip in my entire life. i have four pairs of heels, two pairs of flip flops, a nice pair of sandals, and my tennis shoes. this is twice as many pairs of shoes as i usually pack for any given trip. i am confused.
6b | i was packed for spain before my mother. this doesn’t happen. my mother is the one who would pull suitcases out one to two weeks before a trip and start yelling at the rest of us to start packing. i am the one who packs the night before.
seven | i fought an awkward fight with a bug in my car on the way home, and it is still on the lam. (or, as my father stated, it died due to overheat in my car yesterday. in which case, there is a carcass in my car, and i do not like it, sam i am.)
7a | there was a bug. IN MY CAR.
eight | i continued to put off most of my to-do list yesterday, too.
after all, i though, i can do it tomorrow.
a postscript:me putting off my to-do list for so long means you don’t get to see pictures of mountains in venezuela, a safari in mexico, australians in poland, or a coffee plantation in honduras. at least, you don’t this week. i do plan to blog about these things eventually. emphasis on eventually.
a second postscript:i have ke$ha stuck in my head. i do not listen to ke$ha on a regular basis. help?
a third postscript:megan, you were the winner of the spain fundraiser giveaway! look out for an email in your inbox soon.
