A few weeks ago Chelsea asked me to speak on modesty for a clothes swap she was planning for the youth group she serves.
I was super excited to do it before I got a little overwhelmed upon realizing the fact that modesty is really difficult to speak on in a way that’s freeing. I grew up with a bunch of rules about what modesty was and looked like growing up and that’s a legacy I never want to hand down. We were made for freedom to live in a way that glorifies our Father, not for chains binding us to a system of failure and reward.
I feel especially strongly about when we’re talking about something that should be as straightforward as clothes.
Here’s the thing: dressing wisely and well is not just a subject for teenage girls who are trying to learn how to deal with changing bodies and the dawning of dating in a potentially serious way. It’s a subject for even we women who are in our twenties, who are married with kids, who are empty nesters.
So I wanted to share the video I filmed for Chels and FBC, for women of all ages, as a resource and reminder that how we dress is an issue about which we should think critically.
