This space turned six on August 12, but it’s worn nearly as many titles as it’s lived years. When I first began writing here, it was called Musings of a Simple College Student, a slightly altered version of a poem I wrote for my ninth grade English teacher.
The story behind What She Saw is that the title crashed into my head without warning, and I loved it. I have spent my six years here attempting to peer behind the veil that yet separates heaven from earth, so it was a metaphorical reference to that, as well as a literal reference to my dabbling in photography.
SAW are also my initials; Annie is not my middle name but an nontraditional nickname derived from my legal first name. (If you know it, hush.) I started going by it two months after I started the blog, and it was the perfect way to keep an authentic presence here while protecting my legal identity. Almost no one calls me by my legal name anymore, and this blog is actually the thread that converted my nickname from college to post-graduate life.
Every now and then I think it’s fun to revisit not only the titles but (some of) the looks of What She Saw over the years. I have designed my own blog for almost as long as I’ve been writing it!
So now I’m curious: what did What She Saw look like when you began reading?
