Autumn is about to sweep its way into the mitten in a current of cold weather and blustery wind.
It’s not my first choice, but it’s the way of things, and I do love fall. We’ve just had so short a summer I’m hesitant to see it go in favor of anything else.
September always sets the stage for the next few months, so I thought I’d take Bailey up on her suggestion to gauge where I’m at right now.
reading Remembering the Bones by Frances Itani. I’m about halfway through; it’s really good so far!
playing 1010! (It’s pronounced ten-ten.) Let’s be real, when am I ever not playing this? It’s so addicting. I blame one of my HS girls for this.
watching Madam Secretary. I got my friend KF addicted to it with me and we’ve been working through the first season together in anticipation of the second.
eating a chicken salad sandwich from Einstein Bros., in Abby’s honor. It was my lunch yesterday and it was delicious.
drinking pumpkin spice lattes. I’ve had three this past week. Two were piping hot in the chilly summer morning and the third was iced for a blazing afternoon. Delicious.
calling my dad. We’re heading to the dealership for my pre-Influence road trip oil change and tire rotation. At least I think we are, because somebody did not confirm those plans!
texting my brother. We both missed watching the Michigan v. Utah game so we’re trying to coordinate a time to sit down and watch it. This is probably going to take a while since he works nights, I work during the day, and (minor details) I am going to be in a different state next week.
pinning not much of anything. But I am scouring Pinterest for hair ideas, because my friend suggested I make a change and I’m taking her up on it. Stay tuned!
tweeting about grammar. My own grammar. From a different tweet. Yes, I analyze my own grammar on social media, especially when I screw it up.
going to get my oil changed. And THEN to Influence on Wednesday!
loving the warm weather. DO NOT LEAVE ME, SUMMER.
hating construction. Just your typical summer activity in Michigan.
discovering this thought: In the Old Testament, worship revolves around blood. You make blood sacrifices as atonement; your faithfulness or wickedness carry down the generations of your family. But in the New Testament, Christ makes atonement with His blood, and it’s not about blood but love. Love is what grafts us into His family, and I think instead of faithfulness or wickedness carrying down physical generations, they carry down spiritual generations. We can’t always know who’s grafted on our branch as a spiritual child, so I think it’s critical we walk in a way that’s above reproach. We can’t do it ourselves; that’s why we have the Holy Spirit.
thinking about small group curriculum. We can write our own if we choose, and since I have a soft spot for Hebrews 11 as a result of memorizing it my junior year of HS, I thought I would love to dig into it with my own small group. I’ve had so much fun studying and writing for this!
feeling very tired. It’s been a long few weeks.
hoping for a nap.
listening to Hillsong United, Empires, and Rush of Fools, Carry Us Now. You have to listen to both, but especially ROF. I can’t say enough; their lyrics slay me.
celebrating my new job! Y’all, I can’t get over how God orchestrated this. It was a long month of trusting Him to see and meet my needs and relying on Him to work all things together for my good instead of my want. This is definitely a week of jubilee!
ordering Jamberry nail wraps. I think. My coworker is a rep and she gave me some samples to try. I’ll keep you posted!
thanking Jesus. It would take an entire blog post to explain to you how precisely He orchestrated my new job to meet my needs and utilize my gifts and experience. And y’all – that would only be a blog post of the threads I can actually see.
considering how I’m going to do ALL THE INFLUENCE PREP this weekend. Two days is plenty of time to get everything done, but it feels like so little.
starting to put together Influence roommate gifts and youth group reTREAT survival kits. (They’re unfortunately the same weekend, so since I can’t be with my small group girls, I am sending them off with enough candy to last till Halloween. I started coming up with puns for this the day I knew I couldn’t go on retreat and you better believe I will be blogging about it soon.)
finishing this post so I can SLEEP. I’ll be up as early tomorrow as I usually am for work, which is BEYOND THE PALE. Has no one any respect for Saturday morning anymore?
