I started reading Ben Carson’s America the Beautiful yesterday morning.
He starts out by talking about the founding of the country, and I find, no matter how often I study or read about, there’s a stirring of my heart every time. The land of amber waves of grain is the land of the brave who fought for its beginning in 1776 and of those who fight for it still.
It’s so easy to be cynical and dispassionate about America now, when it seems as though the country is only a few threads away of falling apart at the seams, and everything in it has been flipped upside down.
So I’m intrigued, as I dig further into this book and contemplate what it means to be an American, by what you think:
What makes America beautiful to you?
